Build My Life: The Man in Humanity (Numbers 1:1-4)
“And I will build my life upon Your love. It is a firm foundation.” – Housefires 🔨
Dear cherished child,
You have a Refuge you can call your home. Let your heart be
His throne. Let Him rule over you. Let Him call you His own.
I’m talking about God, particularly the Father. There’s only
one God, but He has three Persons, and I’d like us to consider the Father, not
only because it’s Father’s Day, but mainly because it’s where the Book of
Numbers started.
Let’s see what I’m talking about.
Numbers 1:1-4 (NASB)
Now the Lord spoke to
Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of
the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of
Egypt, saying, 2 “Take a census of all the congregation of the sons
of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the
number of names, every male, head by head 3 from twenty years old
and upward, whoever is able to go to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall count
them by their armies. 4 With you, moreover, there shall be a man of
each tribe, each one head of his father’s household.
Numbers was named so because it's in the time when the
Israelites’ male population was counted. The book isn’t only on names and
numbers but is more about their wandering in the wilderness until everyone of
the current generation died and the next was left. A new census was then taken
for them. The censuses were taken so they know how many are able to fight when
they war against the nations that lived in the Promised Land.
In verse 4, the Lord instructed for a man to lead each
tribe. These leaders are named in the second chapter. Now, the question in my
head is, “Why a man?” God created man first. God promised a man that through
him, “all the families of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 12:3).” Jesus
built His Church through a man (Peter).
A man being the head is what develops society. You can’t
have humanity without man. Things need to be in order, so there must be a
leader.
We can’t question why it seems like men are favored, but,
girls, think of it this way: During that time, we don’t have to have what we
may see as bigger responsibilities. Even until now, the father is the head of the
house. That doesn’t mean mothers are inferior. God loves everyone equally. We’re just
given different roles. I think it’s because God the Father is a father Himself
so He wants men to represent Him as leaders.
Now I just want us to see that being a father is a great role and how God is being reflected through it. It could be seen in little things like a father driving his family to go places. I don’t think I should be calling this little because driving looks like serious work. I’m thankful for the times my dad drove us. It’s no small thing at all. In a way, God is like a driver. He holds the steering wheel of our lives. He gives direction. He has beautiful plans for everyone’s journey.
The reason why I called driving little is because it’s not
the main job of dads. What’s seen as their primary role is being the family’s
provider. In the same way, God provided us with everything we need. Actually,
the most important job of a father as the head of a family is to direct them to
God. I’m so grateful for coming from a Christian family. My dad and mom met
because they were both part of the church choir. They’re both leading me and my
siblings to have a relationship with Christ. I appreciate things like my dad leading us in prayer, downloading movies on Bible stories for our family to watch, and recommending Christian videos to watch or podcasts to listen to.

God Himself is definitely making the way for us to come to
Him. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save humanity from iniquity. All who
believe will be with Him in heaven for eternity.
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us
and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10).”
God bless! And to all fathers, I salute you; Happy Father’s
Day!
With love,
Celina <3
